The
Company
Over 60 years ago, two young men began
farming in the fertile Pajaro Valley near the town of Watsonville,
California. Direct distribution of their crops to local grocers became the
start of a wholesale produce company that was successful around the
Monterey Bay for over 35 years. The sale of "Coast Produce" in 1974 was
the beginning of a "new" Watsonville Coast Produce, Inc.
While we still consider ourselves a "local" wholesaler around the
Monterey Bay area, we now dispatch over 25 trucks daily throughout 11
counties in Central and Northern California.
The Facility
After many years of dreaming, several years of
planning and a year of construction, we occupied our new facility in March
of 1999. Our 44,000 square foot warehouse contains nearly 450,000 cubic
feet of refrigerated space, enough for about 700 pallets of fresh fruits
and vegetables. With five different computer-controlled coolers we are
able to store all our products in the proper temperature and humidity,
insuring better arrival to our customers.
Our computer-controlled tarpless banana ripening rooms are
state-of-the-art.
The Product
Watsonville Coast Produce is a full-line
distributor of both conventionally grown and certified organically
grown fruits and vegetables from many of your favorite shippers. We carry
over 600 different items at any one time. Additionally, we distribute
fresh eggs, apple juice and fresh citrus juices. We also stock a full line
of "Fresh Express Farms" salads, in both retail and food service packs.
Need twistems, poly bags, vexar...? We got 'em. In addition to the huge
number of in-stock items, we can supply many "specialty" items with a
little notice. We have the resources to find that "rare" item you want.
The Commitment
In 1937, the commitment of the company was the
same as it is today, partnership with our customers. For over 60
years, the goal of this company has been to help our customers, and
thereby grow the company. Thus our motto, "Partners Working
Together". Our business philosophy is based on mutual trust and
respect between Watsonville Coast Produce and our customers.
The People
In 1974, Coast Produce had about
12 employees. Today we have nearly 100 dedicated produce professionals,
including warehouse-men, drivers, receivers, quality control personnel,
buyers, administrators and sales representatives. Included in our sales
& buying staff are those with extensive retail and food service
backgrounds. All are dedicated to one goal, to do the best we can for the
